THE GREAT UNKNOWN was one of Olympia Dukakis’ final films: a tender short written by actress Desirée Matthews for her and Olympia. Filmed in NYC, it centres on a grandmother consoling her grandaughter after she miscarries. In the final scene, she gains solace as she “sees” fellow journeywomen, Frida Kahlo, Yoko Ono, Audrey Hepburn & Marilyn Monroe, on her subway ride home.
